NEHUSHTAN (brazen serpent)

By: Pastor Abraham Bascon, The Word of God Church, Brockton, MA.

JOHN 3:16 – Is usually taken out of its context to mean, everyone who believes in Jesus shall be saved. Actually, in its proper context, it doesn’t say that at all. Let’s read in JOHN 3: 1-22 nkjv.
1.) JOHN 3:1, Notice that Jesus is having a conversation with
Nicodemus, a Pharisee, a Ruler of the Jews, NOT to the Gentiles!!
The Gentiles are not saved until the Jews stubbornly reject Jesus
(See: Romans 11:11 nkjv).
2.) In JOHN 3:3-5, Jesus says to Nicodemus:
You must be born-again to see and to enter the Kingdom of God.
3.) In JOHN 3:14-21, Jesus gives credence to the Hebrew Bible by
speaking of the Jewish historical event which took place during
their Exodus from Egypt.

The NEHUSHTAN (See Numbers 21: 4-9; 2 Kings 18:4 nkjv).
a.) In JOHN 3:14, Jesus explains to Nicodemus, that as the Jews who
were bitten by the poisonous serpent, when they believed God and
looked up at the lifted-up brazen serpent on the pole, they were
healed and saved. The others who were bitten, and didn’t look up
at the brazen serpent on the pole, who didn’t believe God, perished!
b.) JOHN 3:14, Jesus said, “And 'as' (compare to) Moses lifted up the
serpent in the wilderness, 'even so' (nevertheless) must the Son of
Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him, should NOT perish;
but, have eternal life. For God so loved the world, He gave His only
Begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish; but
have everlasting life.”
Now, this is the proper context of JOHN 3:16 nkjv.

1.) This is the reason that the NEHUSHTAN correlates with JESUS.
a.) The poisonous serpent is representative of Satan. Figuratively
speaking, the serpent (Satan), bit Adam, when he disobeyed
God, and he received the poisonous venom of "sin" in him.
Thus, Adam, being the Father of the human race, passed along
this poisonous venom of “sin” to all of mankind.
(See: ROMANS 3:9-18; 5:12, 18, 19 nkjv)
b.) God’s solution for mankind who has the poisonous venom
of “sin" in them, is to look at Jesus upon the Cross and believe
God that Jesus, is God’s “propitiation” (Nehushtan) for our sin.
(See: ROMANS 3:25-26; 1 JOHN 1:2-3 nkjv).
2.) Praise God, that God demonstrated His love towards the world, in
that while we were still sinners, Jesus died for us (ROMANS 5:8-9).
3.) Praise God, we are saved by God’s amazing grace.
(See: EPHESIANS 2:8-9; ROMANS 5:12, 14-17 nkjv
Praise God for His amazing grace! Praise God for saving us!
Praise Jesus that He is like Nehushtan!
