The LOCUST OF COMPLACENCY-1-by: Pastor Abraham Bascon

When we first became born-again, we became a new creature in Christ.(2 COR.5:17) It was the beginning of a "new" life for us! We were all so excited about Jesus, that no matter where we went, we wanted to tell everyone about the Lord Jesus Christ!
We even had our own born-again Christian vocabulary!Every other sentence out of our mouths was:"Praise the Lord!"or "Alleluia!"
We had 'holy boldness' to approach folks and ask them:"Are you saved?"And, with great enthusiasum we told them all about Jesus!
During the Charismatic Renewal, we heard the news of a group of College Professors and their students who went on retreat to seek God and pray for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. God answered their prayers and they received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Within the next twenty-three short years, over 100 million Catholics received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit! And, not to say, how many millions of others in various Christian churches, also received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit! Millions more throughout the world who never knew Jesus; but, because of the Charismatic Renewal and the obedience of so many Christians, who were willing to do the things that God wanted to be done, many millions of others got saved as well!
As a result of the Charismatic Renewal, although there were initially many salvations, many of those who were so enthused, and wanted to learn more of God, became students (which is a good thing of course); but then, some became "professional" students who just wanted to sit in class and learn more and more (which that too, is a good thing) but, eventually, they became "complacent" in the area of Evangelism. It seemed as though Evangelism, slowly but surely, was eventually put on a back burner, and was no longer the priority.

Church elders, leaders and workers began to engage more of their focus and labors, in various church
and ministry programs that would enhance the believer's Christian walk.(Now,don't get me wrong; these programs are very beneficial to a Christian's walk with the Lord.) However, before we knew it, various camps such as "faith camps," "healing camps," "teaching camps" etc., began to come about. (Again, these are and can be very beneficial to one's Christian walk.) But, take a GOOD look at what Jesus said in ACTS 1:8,"But ye shall receive power(Grk.dunamis)"AFTER" that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be "WITNESSES" unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." What Jesus is saying is that believers are endued with miraculous power from on high for a purpose! They are "equipped" by God with miraculous power for the purpose of being "WITNESSES" of Him, and getting souls saved!

In ACTS1:8-Jesus explains that believers are "endued" with miraculous power! In the Greek, this word "power" is dunamis, which is where we get the word 'dynamite.' Many of us have been born-again for ten, twenty or even thirty years or more!
Be reminded, that prior to the Outpouring of the Holy Spirit, only “kings” and “leaders” received the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. And, only when God had used them to complete a particular mission.
Can you imagine that this power that was once reserved only for kings or leaders, that God would dress "us,"(ordinary people) with these same miraculous powers, with this dunamis?
Question: You may ask: “How did all this come about?”
Answer: It all came about by way of the Holy Spirit Baptism that we received!

When the Prophet JOEL prophecied to the people of God in JOEL 2:28-29 he said: “And 'AFTERWARD' I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh….” (And, Jesus Himself clarified that the Holy Spirit would come upon all believers when he said in John 14:17-"Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth: but YE know him for he dwelleth with YOU, and shall be in YOU.") That is quite clear! In order to receive the Holy Spirit Baptism, one MUST be born-again.

The Prophet JOEL prophecied to the Jews in the southern kingdom of Judah. But, this Word: (The Word that God was going to pour out His Spirit upon all flesh), was for ALL of Israel. And Apostle Peter confirmed this in Acts 2:14-18. Now, Peter's audience in Israel were the people of God, the Jews, and the Jews knew the history of their God. They knew that in the days and years BEFORE the Day of Pentecost, that the Holy Spirit only fell on a selected few like kings God called them for a particular mission. Now, JOEL says: "....upon all flesh." What an awesome priviledge to see and be able to receive the "Promise of the Father," the "Baptism of the Holy Spirit!" Jesus said in LUKE 24:49 "And, behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high." The Promise of the Father is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

When we received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, we were like kids in a candy store! We prospered "spiritually," and we got "spiritually" fat! All who accepted Christ, had the privilege of receiving the Holy Spirit Baptism. The rich, the homeless, the poor, the ordinary folks, and all who desired and received the Holy Ghost Baptism, were endued with miraculous powers! And we might ask the question: "Why? What is the purpose of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?" Answer: Jesus gives us the answer to the questions: Why? What is the purpose for the Holy Spirit Baptism? Answer: So that we would be "witnesses" for Christ! And as believers are endued with spiritual power, we are 'equipped' to be "witnesses" for Him, and to win souls!

It's okay for students of the Word of God to learn about the prophets and so forth. But, just don't forget about the MOST IMPORTANT thing--being a 'WITNESS' for the Lord Jesus Christ and to win souls!

Question: What is the "witness?"
1. judiciary - meaning: eyewitness to a person or event
We can qualify as witnesses of the Lord Jesus Christ in the
judiciary sense, because of what we learn in the Word of God.
2. Martyr - In the Greek is Matus. G3144 - martus
mar'-toos - Of uncertain affinity; a witness (literally[judicially]or figuratively [generally]); by analogy a “martyr”: - martyr, record, witness. A person who has a strong conviction or belief. JESUS says we shall be WITNESSES of Him. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit, is to empower us to WITNESS for Christ for the purpose of "winning souls!"

When you go to the school of prosperity, a faith camp or to a Word camp etc.., do you find believers or non-believers? They are believers! When we over-involve ourselves and focus all of our time on church programs and the such, we are neglecting our priority of being "witnesses" for Christ and "saving souls!"
Do not take God or His gifts for granted! We are endued with power from on high to be "WITNESSES" of the Lord Jesus Christ! As Christians, our main priority is the "saving of souls." Romans 10:17 says: "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God." How can folks hear if there are no Christians out there sharing the Word of God with them? Like the song goes: "Where did all the people go?"... O' they're at the faith camp, the word camp, the prophetic camp, the healing camp and so on. Yes, the Church has numerous programs,(and they may be very good programs), however, the greatest percentage of those that attend them, are already Christians!

We are perhaps all guilty in one way or another, of neglecting to keep "evangelism" and the "saving of souls" as our priority. We have all grown complacent with being too busy, and drifting away from witnessing for Christ. Well, we are "WITNESSES" for Christ, that's what we are!

I myself, had to repent when the Holy Spirit awakened my heart to this Truth. And, the moment I humbled myself and repented of my sin of complacency, God began to flood me with all kinds of spiritual blessings! I had been praying for revival, and God spoke to my heart and said: "You can only 'revive' those who had something previously! As Believers of the Lord Jesus Christ, many of us have experienced the Holy Spirit Baptism as well as His Gifts! Yet, the Holy Ghost fire within us has been reduced to a spark. You cannot 'revive' the world, because the world doesn't know or have the Holy Spirit, as Jesus said in JOHN 14:17.

Revival must first take place within the believers' heart! And, unless we "see" our sin of complacency and repent of it, there cannot be restoration in our churches or our lives! Just as God commanded His people to repent of their complacency in the Book of JOEL.We too, must "see" our own sin of complacency, and we must humble ourselves and repent of it, so that God can RESTORE to us whatever the "locust of complacency" has taken from our lives!
God's not interested in "BIG" churches, or big ministries; but, He is interested in the Salvation of souls! Praise God, we do get blest with various church programs, and I'm certainly not against them; however, don't forget the PURPOSE of the Holy Spirit Baptism that we have received....being equipped by God to be a "WITNESS" of Him, for the "Salvation of souls!"

There are folks who have experienced the Charismatic Renewal in the past; but, for some reason, they went into the closet! They want to speak in tongues, they want to prophecy etc.; but, they can't.
Some churches may feel they are too sophisticated for the gifts or for the speaking in tongues or discerning of spirits etc.. But don't you think that, if it was good for Apostles Peter and Paul, it is good
for us today? In 1CORINTHIANS 14:1 Apostle Paul encourages us to desire spiritual gifts.

As the song goes: It only takes a spark to get a fire going, and there are still folks out there who have a spark! Not a fire, but a spark. If YOU desire and hunger for what we experienced under the Power of the Holy Spirit, then come out of the closet! God wants to work in YOUR life today!

So, we became complacent. The Word of God says that the sin of complacency will bring forth desolation and destruction. Just as the chewing locust, the swarming locust, the crawling locust and the consuming locust of JOEL 1:4. However, if you humble yourself and repent, God says: I will restore ALL that the locust has eaten and taken from you! God says: "I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh!" Be assured that God will always respond to a repentive heart!
After I repented,I began to experience "spiritual restoration!"
If YOU need to repent from the LOCUST OF COMPLACENCY, do it!
The BLESSINGS of the Lord are there, just waiting for YOU!!
Praise Him! ---- Pastor Abraham
