The LOCUST OF COMPLACENCY-2- by: Pastor A. Bascon
Beginning at ACTS 2:1- It was approximately 835 years before the Day of Pentecost that the Prophet Joel gave this prophecy. Here, we see that although things don't take place always immediately in our lives, it doesn't mean that God has gone back on His Promise. It doesn't mean that God doesn't answer the prayers of a righteous people. In ISAIAH 55:11 God tells us:
"So shall My Word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall NOT return to Me void, But it SHALL accomplish what I please." Finally, on the Day of Pentecost, this prophecy takes place at Jerusalem with nineteen plus nations of Jews present!
As citizens of various nations spoke the languages of their own nations, a strange phenonomenon took place on the day that 120 Galileans believers from Galilee had been gathered together.
The Galilean believers began to speak in the various languages of these Jews! The Jews heard them speaking in their languages.
Many thought that all these Galileans were drunk with wine. However, Apostle Peter stood up, lifted his voice, and began to explain to them: ACTS 2:14-16 - "Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed (listen) to my words."For these are NOT drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. But THIS IS THAT which was spoken by the Prophet Joel: "And it SHALL come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out My Spirit on ALL flesh; Your sons and your daughters SHALL prophesy, Your young men SHALL see visions, Your old men SHALL dream dreams, And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they SHALL prophesy." WOW! These folks were actually witnessing the Prophet Joel's prophesy taking place!
When they heard this prophecy, they were blest and elated for they knew that there would be a time where they too would prophesy! Not only men; but, women also! Be reminded, that there was a prior time, when only a few select people of God were able to receive dreams or visions from God. Now, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit was NOT going to be limited to only a few of God's people; but, was to be available to ALL men, women and children! WOW! ACTS 1:4, tells us that while the Apostles were assembled together with Jesus, He commanded them NOT to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, which, they had heard Jesus speak of to them. This Promise of the Father, is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
In ACTS 1:8-Jesus tells His Apostles: "But YOU shall receive power (Greek:dunamis-meaning: miraculous power) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be "witnesses" to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." They were going to receive power to be "witnesses" of Christ, to spread the Word of Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ throughout the earth!
Approximately ten days after Jesus had ascended into heaven the Outpouring of the Holy Spirit came! ACTS 2:1-4 -Tells of the 120 believers, while gathered together in one accord, suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance! The "speaking in tongues," was a "sign" the miraculous work of the Holy Spirit. They were speaking and preaching being witnesses of Christ to all people! As we carefully read ACTS 1:8, we see that the Lord Jesus made sure, that they understood the "Purpose" of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. And, that they would be dressed with Power from on high, to be "witnesses" of Christ! They were "endued" with this (dunamis), this miraculous power that would equip them to be effective witness of the Lord Jesus Christ!
The PURPOSE of the Holy Spirit Baptism is so important for us to be, I repeat "effective" witnesses of Christ. This word "witness" is used in the following manner:
1. Judiciary Tense - Meaning: that you actually saw this person or this event.
2. Martyr - Meaning: One who has a strong belief or conviction who would rather suffer finacially or otherwise, rather than to compromise their cause. They would rather die first! I wonder just how many "martyrs" we have in the Body of Christ? How many would rather die, than to compromise their belief in the Lord Jesus Christ! How many would confess to the end that: "Jesus is my God! He is my Lord and I live for Him and He lives in me!" As Apostle Paul says in GALATIANS 2:20.
Do WE have that conviction when we are challenged with the promises of this world? What happens when WE are challenged?
What is OUR response? Do WE compromise when our conviction is challenged? Are we involved with the work of God or with the work of men? Question: Who knows us better than we know ourselves? Answer: God does! And He knows what is best for us!
God's Will for us is to share His Gospel! He commands us to go and make disciples (learners or students of Christ). There are so many hurting people out in the world that need to hear the Gospel! And how can they hear unless we share it with them? In
ROMANS 10:13-15 Apostle Paul says: "For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved. How then shall they call on Him in whom they have NOT believed? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!" This is what everyone is searching for!
God tells us in 2 CHRONICLES 7:14:
"If My people (Christian people), who are called by My name, (Christian means: Christ-like), HUMBLE themselves, and PRAY and SEEK My face, and TURN from their wicked ways, THEN I WILL hear from heaven, and WILL forgive their sin and heal their land."
Are WE doing what God is saying here?
In REVELATION 3:14-16 - God says He knows their works, they are neither cold nor hot; and, because of this condition, He says:
"I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I WILL VOMIT YOU out of My MOUTH!" In REVELATION 3:20, God tells us: "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me." Is He knocking on the door to YOUR heart? Do you hear His voice? Have YOU opened the door to YOUR heart to the Lord? He WILL come in to YOUR heart, and commune with YOU, if you opened the door of YOUR heart to Him! He is waiting for a response from YOU!
Jesus knows the heart of the believer. Only those who do not have Jesus in their heart, can respond to His invitation!
When Christians become "spiritually complacent, we feel that we are spiritually prospering, we become fat and satisfied. We begin to neglect our purpose for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, to be witnesses of Christ. We become complacent with evangelism! How can they hear if we don't give them the Word?
In 2 CHRONICLES 7:14 - God says: "....He will heal (restore, bring restoration to) our land!" But, it begins with YOU!
In the Book of JOEL 2:1 -"Blow the trumpet in Zion. (Zion, representing the people of God). And sound the alarm in MY holy mountain! (Wake up the people!) Let ALL the inhabitants of the land tremble;
In JOEL 1:2-3 - God is calling out a warning first to the ELDERS, then to ALL the INHABITANTS, HE tells them to tell their CHILDREN as well..." In JOEL 2:17-God calls on the priests (elders) to weep and make intercession on behalf of the people. Jesus says in MAT 23:12 -"And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted."
Sure, there are pockets of Restoration taking place around our country and the world; however, if we are not experiencing Restoration in our own state and in our own lives, we need to 'humble' ourselves, repent from the spirit of complacency and pray that God will 'restore' our state, our lives and our land! Keep in mind, that God will never turn from a repentive heart! Thank You Lord! God bless you all!
