MELCHIZEDEK  (Hebrews 7:8)

A. Who is Melchizedek? Why is He mentioned by the author of Hebrews? To find out the reason, let us study Hebrews 7:8.
1-v.1, Melchizedek is the King of Salem and the Priest of the Most High God.
In v.2; He is the King of Righteousness and the King of Salem (Meaning: the King of Peace).
2-v.3, He was without father and without mother, etc..
a. In other words, no proof could be found of his birth. He was made like the Son of God, and made a Priest forever!
3-v.4, He was greater than the patriarch Abraham who gave him a tenth of the spoils (booty) that he took when he won the battle against the kings who captured his nephew Lot (Gen. 14:8-21).
4-v.5-10, The fact that Abraham and his descendants (who were still in Abraham’s loins), gave a tithe to Melchizedek, proves the superiority of His priesthood.

A-v.7 Says:The lesser (Abraham) is blessed by the better (Melchizedek).
b-v.8, Here, mortal men receive tithes, but there, He (Melchizedek) receives them. Melchizedek is immortal!

5-v.11, If perfection could be obtained from the Levitical priesthood of which the Law (Mosaic) was given to the Israelites, what would the purpose of the rising of another priest in the order of Melchizedek be?
a- In order to annul the former commandment (the Law), because of its weakness, unprofitableness and its failure to make anyone perfect, the Levitical priesthood had to be changed (v.18).

6-v.16, Jesus has come as an image of Melchizedek and not by the power of the Law; but, by the power of an endless life!

7-v.17, For God testifies of Jesus: “You are a priest forever according to the Order of Melchizedek.”
a. With the new priesthood of Jesus, it brings believers of Christ to a better hope through which they are drawn to God!! (v.19)

8-Jesus has become a guarantee of a better covenant!!
9-v.25, Jesus is able to save to the uttermost to those who come to God through Him because as our high priest, He always lives to make intercession for us! Thank You Jesus!

10-v.26, Unlike the Levitical priesthood, Jesus our High Priest is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners and is higher than the heavens!
11-v.27, Unlike the earthly high priest of the Old Covenant, Jesus doesn’t have to offer up sacrifices for Himself and others daily for His sins and the others!
A- Because He did it once for all!! Thank You Jesus!!

12-v.28, The Law appoints high priests who have weaknesses, but the Word of the Oath (v.21) appoints the Son (5:5-6) who has been perfected for ever and ever!! Praise God!!
For Jesus is our High Priest of a better promise and a better hope, and of a better covenant!!

B- The context of He.7 isn’t about tithing in the New Covenant Church.
It’s about the ascendance of Jesus as our High Priest in the Order of Melchizedek over the Levitical Priesthood!!

1- HE. 8:1-2, Now this is the main point we are saying:
That tithing is the Law, and if you are a good Christian, you need to tithe. Question: Is that correct? Answer: No, no, tithing is NOT the main point!!

a- The main point is:
We have such a High Priest who is seated at the right hand of the Throne of the Majesty of the Heavens…”
Praise You Jesus, King of Righteousness, King of Peace, Priest of the Almighty God, who ever lives to make intercession for us who believes in You!!
